Here we present a Smith & Wesson 4th Model Revolver in .38 S&W, made at the turn of the 20th Century in Springfield, Massachusetts. This would have been a nice gun to wear in a small belt holster for self-defense.
This revolver was factory refinished in May 1926, per the star on the bottom of the grip frame and the 3 digit date code under the left grip. The top of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS U.S.A./ PAT’D MAY 11, 1880. JAN 3, 1888. APRIL 9, 1889”.
The overall condition is fine. The nickel finish is nearly complete. The blue finish is better than 90%. The case colors are faintly visible. The markings are clear and legible. Serial numbers match. The grips are very good. The bore is clear and bright with strong rifling. The action on this revolver is excellent. Here is a very nice piece that the owner clearly took care of!
