Antique Factory Engraved S&W .38 DA 3rd Model Revolver with Letter
Description:
Serial #129961, .38 S&W, 5" barrel with a very good bore that has minor freckling within the grooves. This is a handsome revolver that has matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, barrel, and latch. The metal retains 85-90% of the original nickel finish, with some mild flaking to the underlying dark gray metal in spots, and scattered specks of plum-brown freckling. The frame and cylinder have excellent, New York style, floral scrollwork engraving with further wavy geometric designs running along both sides of the barrel. The trigger guard and latch retain much of the original blue finish, while the trigger has a commensurate amount of slightly muted original color case-hardening remaining. The revolver has correct period S&W hard rubber grips that exhibit only very mild wear and flettening of the points, but are numbered to a different gun on the interior. The lock-up is tight, and the action functions flawlessly in both single and double-action. The revolver is accompanied by a 2026-dated S&W factory letter that lists the configuration of the gun as "Fancy", and lists a shipping date of November 29, 1884, to the firm of M.W. Robinson in New York City. This is a splendid looking factory embellished .38 DA, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. Antique;
