Antique Smith & Wesson No.3 Nickel, Ivory, .44 S&W American.
Description: Antique Smith & Wesson Number 3 model revolver made before the introduction of the New Model revolver in 1878 and chambered for .44 S&W American caliber. Revolver features a 8" barrel with solid rib and top break mechanism, 1.43 inch cylinder, and single action trigger. Revolver is marked with single line address and patent dates with latest patent in 1869. Cylinder, grip strap and top strap lock are numbered "165" ,nickel finish is in overall very good condition with some loss of finish visible on bottom of barrel. All screws are present with most screw slots clean and unmarred. Ivory grips are in overall good condition with no chips or cracks and hand scribed with #24 on both grip halves. Bore is bright and shiny with strong rifling. Transitional Model serial number ranges are from approximately 3,200and 6,800 with this example falling in the latter. Transitional models are distinguished by a shorter 1.423-inch cylinder and a notch in the hammer for the interlocking barrel catch. The rib has the one-line address/patent dates marking. Chambered in .44 Smith & Wesson American caliber. This model Smith and Wesson was carried by Wm. Buffalo Bill Cody and Outlaw Jessie James. Add 3% if paying with credit card.
