FINE S&W Frontier Double Action Revolver in Scarce .44-40
Description: Antique Smith & Wesson Double Action Frontier Revolver In Scarce .44-40 Winchester Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson Double Action First Model Revolver, also known as the New Model Navy or D.A. Frontier, made circa 1881. Only 53,590 were made, most of which were chambered in .44 S&W Russian. Only 15,340 were produced in .44-40 Winchester, and this is one of them. Two notable figures to have used a .44 Double Action were John Wesley Hardin, who carried one as he was killed by Constable John Selman in 1895, and Constable John Selman, who was carrying one when he was killed by George Scarborough a year later. The S&W Frontier went head to head with the Colt Model 1877 Lightning, Thunderer and 1878 Frontier. It won on the question of quality, but lost on numbers of actual sales. Like almost all Smith & Wessons, this revolver is of supreme workmanship. It is very precise, has excellent features and fit and finish. The trigger is fantastic in double action and single action. This is a top break, auto-ejecting design to make it easy to load and unload, especially on horseback. The balance is very nice. The front and rear sights are actually quite good and very precise. This specimen is scarce as it is chambered in the .44-40 Winchester cartridge. It is in overall fine condition. The barrel legend is very clear and legible. The serial number is relatively low and in the four digits, all matching. They made these in a nickel finish, but this high polish bluing is gorgeous. Casehardening is bright on the hammer and trigger. Bore is fine and the action is excellent. This would make a fantastic addition to any collection and is still very shootable. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 6 inches in length. Cylinder is 1-9/16 inches long. Caliber: .44-40 Winchester Bore is in very good condition and the revolver is in fantastic working order. Overall condition as seen in photos. Looking for something different in a sea of Colts? Look no further. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
