Description:
Standard configuration Smith & Wesson 5-Shot, Top Break, Single Action Revolver, 1st Model "Baby Russian", cal. .38 S&W, made between 1875-1877, whose total production was 25,548. This example has a 3.5" barrel with half-moon front sight and fixed rear sight. Top of barrel with the usual two line address/patent date. Color case hardened hammer. Most other small parts blued/nickeled. Full serial number on butt, cylinder, barrel and top break lever. Fitted with black rubber grips molded with Smith & Wesson logo and diamond around the screw. Custom engraved backstrap “M. L. Higgins 1876”, an inscription that would be interesting to research. ANTIQUE.
Condition:
A crisp 97-98% original factory nickel with most discoloration/oxidative changes in cylinder flutes. Negligible wear on front and back straps. Crisp grips without cracks or splits, in keeping with the overall appearance of this revolver. Mirror bore. Perfect manual mechanics with each cylinder locking tightly into place, the recoil shield showing no evidence of having been fired! A wonderful antique whose condition would be difficult to upgrade!
