U.S. Military Smith & Wesson 2nd Model Schofield cavalry revolver, serial number 4901, manufactured 1876-1877 for the U.S. Army during the Indian Wars era. One of the best to come to market in the last few years!
Description:
Standard configuration Smith & Wesson Schofield with fixed front sight and grooved rear sight. Full serial number on butt and repeated on the cylinder. Left side of barrel with two line S&W address and patent dates. Right side of frame marked with Schofield patent dates. Color case hardened trigger and hammer. Fitted with walnut grips having scribing on both panels and a date of 1876 on left panel.
Condition:
Bright original blue with barrel showing usual flaking, though much much less than the majority of Schofields. Frame with 90-95% bright original blue. Comparable condition case hardening on hammer and trigger guard. Grips retaining most of their original varnish, scattered light handling marks as carefully imaged. Recoil shield does not show any cartridge head imprints. Mirror bore. Perfect manual mechanics. A wonderful US military Schofield whose condition would be difficult to improve upon.
