Description:
This is the nicest engraved S&W Model Pre Model 36 flat latch revolver we have ever seen. According to factory records this revolver was shipped in 1955 to an Air Force Post Exchange in San Francisco as a standard flat latch 3 inch round butt revolver and the engraving would have been done after leaving the factory. This could very well be the case as the revolver belonged to Captain Joseph R Butler Jr, a WWII Fighter Pilot Air Ace who later flew F-86F's in the Korean War, and then flew for the CIA (Air America) through the Vietnam War. Joe told me he sent the revolver back to Smith & Wesson and had full coverage engraving done. Evidently factory records do not reflect this, but if you compare to factory full covering engraved revolvers of the same period you will see the engraving is just exactly like other known factory engraved examples. And when I say full coverage engraving that is exactly what I mean - all surfaces are engraved just look at the photos. And, the revolver remains in mint unfired condition!
