** SOLD ** 1940-1941 Vintage Smith & Wesson Military & Police Model 1905 DA/SA .38 Special Revolver ** Handsome Pre-Model 10 w/ Superb Mechanics **

Description:
This is an all-original and handsome pre-WW2 manufacture Smith & Wesson Military & Police Model of 1905 DA/SA .38 Special revolver w/ a 4" inch barrel.  Manufactured sometime between 1940 and 1941, this Pre-Model 10 M&P is in very good condition overall and is in excellent condition mechanically.  It retains all of it's original factory finishes and parts, and all of the serial-numbered parts are matching including the grips.  This Smith has been lightly used but was well cared-for, showing only light finish wear in spots and some scattered minor handling marks.  Most of the finish wear is located on the high-edges of the gun and the grip straps where some minor rust has been removed long ago.  There are no bad spots or eyesores that stick out on this S&W.  The factory case colors on the hammer and trigger have faded but still show some nice patches of color.  All of the factory markings are crisp and clean, and all of the screw heads in this gun are in superb shape with perfect straight slots.  The bore in the 4" inch barrel is in excellent condition, both bright and clean with no visible pitting, damage or erosion visible.  The 6 chambers of the cylinder are equally as clean and free from visible wear or damage.  The cylinder has a perfect action star at the rear with nice sharp edges and a very clean face with just some very light flash halos visible.  Both of the beautiful original factory grips on this Military & Police model are in excellent condition.  They are the pre-WW2 type with no medallions, made of American Walnut with hand-cut checkering.  The checkering on both grips is still well-defined and sharp, and neither side is soiled or oil-soaked.  The right grip is serial numbered to the gun in pencil, as was the practice at this time period.  Both grips are perfectly fit to the gun with a seamless metal to wood fitment, and both grips are nice and tight to the frame with ZERO wiggle.  As mentioned earlier, the action on this S&W M&P is in like-new condition.  It is extremely smooth and slick, so much so that it really has to be felt to truly be appreciated.  There was an immense amount of hand-fitting and hand-tuning that went into these pre-WW2 Smiths that just can't be replicated today regardless of the high-tech machinery available to gun manufacturers. The action in this Smith is perfectly "in time" no matter how fast or slow it is worked, double or single-action.  The cylinder lock-up is excellent and the trigger is VERY good overall, even excellent when used in single-action firing.  It breaks with a very light and uniform pull like a thin glass rod with no felt grit, drag, or excessive travel.  Everything on this M&P just works perfectly, and we have no doubt whatsoever that it will shoot just as reliably and accurately today as it did the day it left the S&W factory over 81 years ago.  If you have been looking for a nice honest all-original 5-screw Military & Police Pre-Model 10 for your collection as a shooter and investment this 1940-41 production example would be an excellent choice.  They just don't make them like this anymore!
