A nice example of the post-war Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector. In fact, this individual revolver was produced immediately after the war ended given its serial number. The post-war M&P’s begin at serial number S811,338. This is serial number S821,479. The Military & Police Model (Post War) is essentially identical to the Victory Model and the Model of 1905 (also known as the .38 M&P 3rd Model). The difference between those two models and the M&P Post-War lies primarily in differences of markings and finish. The Post-War was built as a square butt (and later round butt also) K frame with 5 screws. Barrels of 2”, 4", 5", and 6" were common. It was produced from 1946 until 1957 when the model was renamed as the Model 10. This example has the 5" barrel and a square butt. Cylinder length is roughly 1.56". It is interesting to note that the Smith & Wesson catalogue of the time applied the Model 1905 designation to all square butt revolvers and the M1902 designation to all round butt revolvers. This was mainly an internal factory method of reference. As a result, S&W collectors may refer to the M1905 round butt revolvers (38 SPL and 32-20 versions) as M1902s. Overall, the M&P is in good condition. There is some holster wear on the barrel though it is primarily on the left side. There is some noticeable wear in the bluing behind the left side recoil plate.
