What a rare gem this is for the S&W collector. At first glance you see a very well put together target revolver, chambered in .38 special. But looking deep into its history is when the real fun begins. This 586-5 originated as part of a Brazilian Government contract. In the early 90’s (’93 to be precise), the Brazilian Government requested a lot of 586s from Smith and Wesson. During production, the contract was terminated and the remaining lot of 200 or so 586-5’s remained in the US.
The fun doesn’t stop there, this particular revolver was part of a group sent to the Las Vegas Police Department to be used as a prize for a Police Pistol Combat (PPC) Match. It has been tricked out with all of the goodies to make this S&W the perfect competition revolver.
The gun was has been professionally fitted with a Bomar Rib and a competition rear sight. The hammer has been honed and bobbed then finished in a black gloss coating. The gun has had the action enhanced to a smooth double action only. The trigger pull is so silky smooth it feels as if it is being fired single action. The trigger has also been gloss blackened to match the hammer.
In addition, the cylinder release is also custom and is designed in a large "L" shape to facilitate speedy release. The condition of the gun appears to be almost unused. The cylinder, recoil shield and force cone show very little use. The bore is just about factory new. The rifling is razor sharp and sunshine bright.
The gun locks up and indexes properly.
Finally, the gun is fitted with a pair of original Smith & Wesson wooden combat target grips that are just about as flawless as the rest of the gun***. When you handle it you know right away that a lot of money has been spent on this bullseye destroyer.
Also included is the original S&W box and paperwork, numbered to the gun.
A custom made jewel for the Police Pistol Combat competitor or any one that wants to hone their combat double action shooting skills. REDUCED.........$1295.
