LIMITED PRODUCTION 1917 COMMERCIAL .45 ACP/AUTO RIM REVOLVER, #180XXX, MADE c.1927-28. These scarce non-U.S. marked Commercial are easily identified by the lack of U.S. Army etc. markings on the butt or U.S. Property marking on the bottom of the barrel. They also have the small S&W logo stamped on the lower portion on the left side of the frame. Further, grips are diamond checkered, not smooth as on the U.S. model. Many of these saw law enforcement and prison guard usage. This example shows it was carried and used, but taken care of. It retains good blue on the cylinder and frame with normal carry/holster wear. The barrel sides and top are mostly gray/brown (with good blue around the sight and in protected areas) as are the grip straps and some on the bottom of the trigger guard. The butt retains the swivel and shows good blue. The trigger and hammer show light traces of case color. Fine action, locks correctly, exc. bore. The front sight has not been altered. Grips show some handling/carry wear, but are fine and fit perfectly. Matching numbers on the frame, cylinder and barrel. Exc. markings on the barrel top. A very scarce Pre-War big "N" frame S&W with a lot of life left in it!
