SCARCE BLUE FINISH, 5" BARREL .38 DOUBLE ACTION TOP BREAK 4TH MODEL, #427XXX, MADE 1895-1909
Description: SCARCE BLUE FINISH, 5" BARREL .38 DOUBLE ACTION TOP BREAK 4TH MODEL, #427XXX, MADE 1895-1909. These are simply a smaller, scaled down version of the big .44 Frontier Top-Breaks. The workmanship in these hand fitted revolvers is truly amazing. Most of these seem to show up in nickel finish and with the shorter 3 1/4" barrel. This example has the scarce long 5" barrel and displays beautiful turn of the last century high-polish S&W blue. Overall, there is some thinning of the blue that is mixing brown on the cylinder with bright blue in the flutes. The back strap also shows very aged, thin blue to gray. the barrel shows mainly bright blue with excellent markings. consisting of the S&W address and patent dates on the top rib and "38 S&W CTG" on the left side. The frame and square back trigger guard also retain fine glue with some thinning on the rear section of the frame. There is nice case colors on the hammer and trigger, grips are excellent, the action is very tight with unturned screws, matching serial numbers and the bore is bright and excellent. Hard to find these in blue and longer barrel length. One of the most attractive and appealing of the top break line of revolvers from the late Victorian era.
