Smith & Wesson
Description: You are looking at a Smith & Wesson Model 1905 4th Change Military & Police revolver. This was a special order gun delivered to the buyer who ordered it. Background:The first M&P / first .38 S&W Special was the Model of 1899. It had a round butt and no latch under the barrel to lock the tip of the ejector rod. The second version of the M&P was the Model of 1902. It had a round butt and DID have a lug under the barrel to lock the tip of the ejector rod. The third version of the M&P was the Model or 1905. It was similar to the Model of 1902 except it could ordered with either a round butt or a square butt. Long before this gun was built in 1941, the round butt version was no longer available. In 1941, Captain James A. Mitchell of Terre Haute, IN asked S&W to make him a 4” Blue M&P with a round butt and hard rubber grips. Smith & Wesson found a round butt K-Frame frame and built M&P #666196 for Captain Mitchell. A historical letter signed by S&W Historian Roy Jinks explains this, and this letter will accompany the gun to its next owner. This lovely revolver is still in its original numbered-to-the-gun box. The paperwork that was shipped with the gun is in the box. I can find no other blue loss that a small patch of muzzle wear on the left side. It takes lot of imagination to think you can see ANY cylinder drag line, and the recoil shield “says” this gun was fired little if at all! Call (520-399-0440) with any questions . Shipped to your FFL dealer insured for $35.
