VERY FINE CONDITION S&W 1917 U.S. ARMY .45 ACP/.45 AUTO RIM REVOLVER, #56XXX. A particularly fine early World War I example that retains most of the blue overall with only some thinning on the back strap, light muzzle wear and minor edge wear. Exc. smooth walnut grips and sharp correct U.S. Army markings on the butt and, importantly, "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" stamping on the bottom of the barrel- this often ground off. Good light case color on the hammer and trigger. Exc. bore and very tight lock up on the cylinder and action. Matching serial numbers on the frame, cylinder and barrel along with the correct "flaming bomb" cartouche on the top of the left side of the frame. Unaltered front sight. Many of these saw service in both world wars.
