Factory Inscribed Smith & Wesson Pre Model 24 Special Ordered Factory Letter Original Box MINT
Description:
A factory letter accompanies this fabulous and investment grade Pre Model 24 confirming the rare configuration and detailing its original shipment on November 29, 1951 to Emerson W. Axe of the S&W Board of Directors. This is believed to be the first 4” example known and was special ordered by and factory inscribed for Emerson W. Axe who served on the board of directors at Smith & Wesson for many years, playing a very influential role within the company. Axe was a prolific shooter and collector, having ordered quite a number of unique items with his connections at the factory. All known examples have an especially bright polished finish and typically feature his name engraved on the side plate as well as a special front sight.
Equipped with the rare 4” barrel, special ordered bright blue finish, numbers matching checkered walnut diamond magna grips and the original numbers matching gold picture box; this spectacular example is mint from end to end showing no signs of firing and only the faintest of collector type handling evidence, largely a small handling mark on the side plate. The bore and cylinder chambers are mint and the mechanical working order is flawless. Bottom line a truly unique example of a very tough to acquire N-frame variant that will be a high-water mark in any collection.
