This is the civilian target model of the .41 Rem Mag revolver developed for the police in the 1960's. The Model 57 was the blue version of the Model 58 and the 657 is the stainless steel version of the 57. The .41 mag had a checkered history due to marketing issues. Originally developed as a hunting round with a velocity of 1300 fps and police round at 1050 fps, it offered high performance for hunting, and controlled penetration for the police. Unfortunately, the police got hold of the hunting loads and hated the over penetration and the recoil. They shunned the cartridge and then reverted to .357's in revolvers, or the new autoloading pistols on the market with their high capacity. That being said, those shooters who like the cartridge, really LIKE the performance. It is a great choice for medium heavy hunting as well as a great home defense cartridge. This pistol will fill the bill for anyone who really wants an all-purpose pistol for defense, hunting, and competition. .41 Remington Magnum
