At the conclusion of World War II, 10,000 frames and spare parts stamped in the 1930s were purchased back from the government, assembled and sold as late as 1949-1950 again as the Model 1917 Army. Believed that fewer than 1000 commercial versions were made in a serial number range of S209792-S210782. This particular revolver has a serial number S210451. This serial number is on the underside of the grips, rear of cylinder, underlug, and butt. The pinned barrel is 5.5 inches long with a bore that is in excellent condition. It is a square butt, N frame, five screw revolver. It was made between 1949-1950 based on the 3rd Edition Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson. It has a six shot fluted cylinder with a checkered cylinder release. The left side of the barrel is marked "S.&W. D.A.45". It has a non-shrouded ejector rod and a lanyard ring on the butt of the frame. The timing and lock up are perfect based on visual inspection. The blue finish retains most of its luster but has a few minor imperfections. It has a case color checkered hammer and serrated trigger. It has a forged round blade fixed front sight and an integral square-notch fixed rear sight. It has 2-piece brown diamond checkered walnut grips with silver S&W emblems. The underside of the grips are marked "68" over "78" and have the matching serial number "210451". The back strap and front strap are smooth. This revolver qualifies as a curio and relic and can ship where legally allowed. This revolver would make a great addition to any firearms collection.
