Smith & Wesson Heavy Duty .38-44, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Smith & Wesson, Year C1931, .38-44, 40oz., 5" Barrel Serial Number: 37127 This is a solid piece of Smith & Wesson metal! Serial numbered 37127 and manufactured circa 1931 making this one of the early examples of this workhorse revolver. The Heavy Duty was introduced in 1930 when Police forces began to ask for more powerful handguns. It has fixed sights and the less common five-inch barrel, a heavy frame and stronger cylinder were features that allowed this gun to shoot the hot rounds of the day. Its rugged frame is surprisingly well balanced. The gun has been used, the bluing shows some thinning and signs of age, but it locks up with a snick and the double action is Smith & Wesson smooth. The bore is excellent with strong rifling. Evolutionary the .38-44 Heavy Duty was a precursor to the latter magnum revolvers. The Heavy Duty became the Model 20 in 1957, and production ceased in 1966. This gun is approaching its first one hundred years and it still feels like it could go another round! Thanks for looking!
