** SOLD ** Smith & Wesson Model 36 Chiefs Special Revolver in .38 Special **Mfg Mid 1960s - With Box and Papers**
Description: Presented here is a very nice Smith & Wesson model36 Chief's Special in .38 Special caliber. The Smith & Wesson Model 36 (also known as the Chiefs Special) is a revolver chambered for .38 Special. It is one of several models of J-frame revolvers. It was introduced in 1950, and is still in production in the classic blued Model 36 and the stainless steel Model 60. The Model 36 was designed in the era just after World War II, when Smith & Wesson stopped producing war materials and resumed normal production. For the Model 36, they sought to design a revolver that could fire the more powerful (compared to the .38 Long Colt or the .38 S&W) .38 Special round in a small, concealable package. Since the older I-frame was not able to handle this load, a new frame was designed, which became the J-frame. This particular example is in very good physical and mechanical condition exhibiting only the lightest of handling marks. The 3" barrel has a good bore with strong rifling. Sights are a blade front and trough rear. The action locks up very tightly in the "fired" condition. The trigger has a shoe installed which could easily be removed. The grips are excellent with no cracks or chips. This fine Smith Model 36 would make a great addition to a collection or a strong start to a new collection.
