SELF DEFENSE Handgun Made Circa 1909-10
Here we present a C&R Smith & Wesson .38 Double Action “Perfected” Revolver, made circa 1909-10 in Springfield, Massachusetts. These were the most highly refined of Smith & Wesson’s Double Action line with an exposed hammer.
These shared their predecessors’ top break, auto-ejecting feature. Its two primary differences included the mechanism by which one unlocked the barrel and cylinder assembly to “break open” the revolver for reloading, as well as the integral trigger bow. Regarding the opening mechanism, the former iterations simply required one to flip the “T” shaped latch at the top; however, the Perfected model required the sliding latch on the left side of the frame to be pushed forward to then move the “T” shaped latch. This was the only top-break revolver that Smith & Wesson made where the trigger guard is integral to the frame, rather than a separate piece.
The overall condition is fine. Original nickel finish. Excellent, tight action. The bore is bright with strong rifling. Both grips are good with the exception on the left grip missing a butt chip. Markings are legible. Numbers match.
