HIGH CONDITION EARLY .38 DOUBLE ACTION 2ND. MODEL, #60XXX, ONLY MADE 1880-1884
Description: HIGH CONDITION EARLY .38 DOUBLE ACTION 2ND. MODEL, #60XXX, ONLY MADE 1880-1884. These handsome double action top-break Smiths in .38 S&W caliber are hard to find in anything but hard used condition. Most of these pocket sized revolvers were carried and used hard. This 3 1/4" barrel example retains nearly all the nickel finish with only some very minor scratches and some minor peeling around the sharp edge of the side plate. The hammer and trigger sides retain fine case color and the barrel latch retains fine blue. The bottom of the correctly blued trigger guard is dulling from age with brighter blue on the rear portion and sides It is fitted with pearl grips that are not chipped or cracked and fit very well- may be factory as during this time medallions were not put on pearl grips. When got this revolver there was still dried and hard grease on portions of the grip straps near the butt. I cleaned some of it and one can see some staining of the pearl from the grease. No doubt this one was stored away for decades. The action is excellent and the bore also is excellent. Numbers match on the frame, cylinder, latch and barrel. A really fine 140 year old S&W.
SOLD
