Antique Smith & Wesson 2nd Model DA. 38 Caliber. Excellent Mechanics.
Description: SOLD...Antique Smith & Wesson 2nd model DA. .38 S&W caliber.. Here is a nice and pretty hard to find Smith & Wesson 2nd model. These were made from 1880 to 1884. This one S/N 94144 and ALL matching of course. This one is in nickel finish and it has faded and dulled out OR could possibly be tin plated but I see NO signs of any re finishing. ALL the edges and markings are sharp. Has the standard 3 1/4" barrel. The barrel retains about 75% finish. The cylinder has about 45% or so and the frame has 95% including the front and rear grip straps. The balance of the metal is a smooth medium brown patina. .. There is NO pitting on the gun anywhere. The trigger has some bright vivid case colors in the protected areas as you can see and the trigger guard has nice bright blue remaining on the sides. About 15% blue on the barrel latch. Case colors are visible on the right side of the hammer. These are all original finish and this is why I do not think this gun has ever been messed with or re finished. The mechanics are excellent. Crisp and tight as a new gun and perfect working order in both DA and SA mode. Hammer notches hold on the safety and full cock in the SA mode. Most of these early second models do not function like they are suppose to because most have a seen a lot of wear. This one is perfect. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and the hinge. NO cylinder movement front to rear and NO side to side wobble. Like I said, this gun is tight as new. The grips are very nice and still show their fine luster and strong checkering with very little wear. A perfect factory fit. The bottom of the left grip shows a small crack that is still solid with nothing missing. Very common to see this crack on these pocket S&W's and many are chipped out in this area. The bore is very good with strong rifling with just some minor roughness as can be expected. The chambers will clean to excellent with no roughness. ALL the markings and edges are perfect and sharp. The front sight has been lowered a little long ago. Original owner did not like the way in shot to the sights and this is what happens.!!! All the screw heads are still sharp but do show some turning as can be expected but not all burred up and abused. This is really an above average early second model DA that are fairly hard to find in nice condition and much better than the beat up, no finish ones that do not work properly. It is offered at a reasonable price also. $51 insured priority mail shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.
