Here we present a Smith & Wesson .38 Double Action Hammerless Revolver, 3rd Model, made circa 1892 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This revolver was made to be a simple, compact and reliable firearm that one could carry in a pocket or a holster around the turn of the 20th Century. Several other iterations preceded the 4th Model, and each one improved on the last. This revolver features an internal hammer design to remove risk of snagging or stopping the action. The double action only function removes the temptation to cock the hammer into single action. There is a grip safety built into the back of the grip frame. The frame is a top-break design that activates the automatic ejector. These are very nice features from the turn of the 20th Century!
The overall condition is near fine. The nickel has been refinished and is 98%. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The bore has strong rifling. The hard rubber grips are worn but still solid. The action on this revolver is excellent.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
