Antique Smith & Wesson Second Model Single Action .38 Revolver
Description:
Smith & Wesson manufactured this model from 1877 to 1891. This is an early example (serial number 5576). Most of these manufactured were nickel plated with hard rubber grips, but this example was made as a blued gun with factory Walnut grips. It is all original with all matching numbers including the grips. There are some areas still showing the original bright blue finish with the of the finish having turned to a blue-brown patina. The action on this S&W is still perfectly "in-time" and locks up nice and tight. The bore has some scattered light pitting but still shows nice rifling. The automatic ejector still works properly as well with no drag or grittiness, and the top strap latch still has strong spring pressure to fasten securely. The trigger functions perfectly, breaking cleanly. Blued examples of the SMith & Wesson Second Model Single Action are hard to find in any condition much less with this much finish remaining and mechanically perfect. This revolver from one of America's most important gun makers would be an excellent addition to any antique firearms collection.
