BABY RUSSIAN SMITH & WESSON 38 S&W Single Action Revolver WILD WEST Antique c1876 Nickel Finish 3 1/4” Barrel 5-Shot
Description: BABY RUSSIAN SMITH & WESSON 38 S&W Single Action Revolver WILD WEST Antique c1876 Nickel Finish 3 ¼” Barrel 5-Shot Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson 1st Model “Baby Russian” .38 S&W Single Action Revolver, made circa 1876-77 in Springfield, Massachusetts during its two year production run. The Smith & Wesson .38 Single Action, 1st Model was the first gun to be chambered in the .38 S&W caliber. By 1876, Smith & Wesson needed to compete in the mid-tier market. The First Model American, which was chambered in .44 S&W, established the company’s presence in the large frame market. But its weight of over 40 ounces and hefty 8 inch barrel made it unsuitable for any sort of urban carry. It was also clear that centerfire cartridges were the way of the future, and Smith & Wesson was eager to once again take the lead in the area. The term “Baby Russian” is a bit deceiving since this gun technically doesn’t have any relationship to the Model 3 Russian Model. The name came from the protrusion under the barrel that houses the extractor mechanism, which resembled that Model 3. Subsequent .38 Single Action guns eliminated this protrusion and are thus not considered “Baby Russians” by collectors. Models were available in blued or nickel-plated finishes, and the majority were produced with ?3-1/4 inch or 4-inch barrels, although barrels as long as 7 inches were sold. Serial numbers range from 1 through to 25,548 between 1876 and 1877. Total production of all models of the S&W .38 Single Action exceeded just over 223,000. The overall condition is fine. Original finish. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with strong rifling. The grips are solid. The numbers match. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3-1/4 inches. Caliber: .38 S&W Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1800 #231009 SOLD Antique: Yes |
