Excellent Antique Smith & Wesson 1st Model Baby Russian. Rare 4" Barrel. 95% Or Better. Crisp And Tight As New.
Description: SOLD...Antique Smith & Wesson 1st model Baby Russian.. Here is an excellent Smith & Wesson Baby Russian.. Caliber is the .38 S&W black powder of course.. Has the more harder to find 4” barrel.. The S/N is 6225 and all matching of course.. Only 25,548 of this model made from 1876 to 1877. As you can see this gun retains most all of the original nickel finish.. The barrel has 99% finish. The frame has 99% including the front and rear grip straps. The cylinder has about 90% with the finish loss being down in the flutes of the cylinder as you can see. The nickel finish is a little cloudy on the back strap from handling but has never been cleaned or polished on.. No pitting anywhere on the gun.. The finish is not flaking. The hammer has very nice case colors showing.. The barrel latch has 98% bright blue. The trigger even retains 80% bright blue.. Just missing the blue on the very bottom from light use.. The trip latch on the bottom of the frame has traces of blue.. The markings are excellent. Excellent front sight never filed on. The screw head slots look untouched but the latch screw shows some minor turning only. The mechanics are excellent.. Tight and crisp as a new gun.. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the barrel latch and the barrel to frame hinge.. NO wobbles.. Cylinder locks up tight as new with NO cylinder movement.. Both hammer notched are correct and positive. Extractor works perfectly of course. You will not find a tighter gun than this.. The grips are excellent as well and show all the fine checkering with no wear or flattening.. NO cracks or chips and a perfect snap on factory fit.. They do show some light fading to a brownish color from exposure to the sun and very light handling. This also happens when a gun is displayed in direct sun light.. The bore is excellent with no pitting as expected showing excellent sharp rifling with just very minor frosting.. The cylinder chambers are excellent as well with no pitting. I think this gun has been fired very little as all of the nickel finish is present on the face of the cylinder. This little Smith would be hard to improve on unless you found a mint un fired one in the factory box. This one is absolutely good enough for a factory box if you have one or can find one for a 4” barrel.. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.. $25 insured priority mail shipping and packed with care.. Don't miss this little jewel.. SOLD Antique: Yes |
