Excellent Antique Smith & Wesson Double Action "Frontier Model" 44-40 Caliber. Excellent Like New Mechanics With Original Holster...
Description: SOLD...REDUCED PRICE.. !!! Very fine antique Smith & Wesson double action “Frontier” revolver with standard 6 1/2” barrel and it's original full flap holster as you can see... Here is a real nice example of the Smith & Wesson Frontier model . These were made in the more desirable and rather harder to find. 44-40 caliber. They were made in their own S/N range from 1 to 54668. Made from 1886 to 1913.. This one is S/N 11708 and all matching of course on the butt, barrel, barrel latch and cylinder... The right grip is also scratch numbered as is correct... All of these large frame S&W revolvers frames were manufactured before 1898 so all are considered antique and require no FFL.. Regardless, this one falls into the pre 1898 as it still has the early pre 1900 two line address and does not have the .44 Winchester Ctr. as the later ones did.. The mechanics are excellent.. Crisp and tight as a new gun in double and single action. The cylinder has no front to rear or side to side wobble. It locks up with no cylinder movement at all.. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and the hinge with no movement.. all tight as the day it left the factory.. The gun is in very fine condition with 70% original nickel finish.. I will break it down for you part by part.. The barrel has 40% to 50%.. The cylinder has 70% to 75%. The frame has 80% including the front and rear grip straps.. The balance were the nickel is missing is a very pleasing medium brown patina and shows no cleaning or being messed with.. Just the way you love to find these nickel plated guns.. Markings are excellent.. The hammer has 95% bright vivid case colors.. The trigger has about the same amount on the sides but is very slightly fading but still semi bright and vivid.. The barrel latch blue has faded to brown patina with just trace of blue on the bottom were protected.. The blue on the trigger guard has faded to a dull blue brown color with some bright blue in the protected areas.. The bore is near excellent with some shine and with strong and deep rifling.. The cylinder chambers are very fine with some very minor surface crud that I am quite sure will clean to excellent.. NO pitting in the bore or chambers. The grips are excellent.. Still show all their fine checkering showing very little wear.. A perfect snap on factory fit and numbered to the gun as mentioned. NO chips or cracks.. The screw heads are excellent and show very little turning if any at all.. Take down pins show no peck marks.. The HOLSTER is in excellent condition.. Medium weight leather and absolutely dates to the period use of the revolver.. Late 1880's to 1900 or so.. No rips or tears and all the original stitching is tight and intact.. Still retains about 80% of the original polish finish with no crazing. Belt loop is solid and secure on the back..Some simple rolled tooling around the border as you can see.. It is made for this exact revolver and it fits like a glove.. It is marked on the belt loop 174, probably the catalog number, and S&W DA 44 61/2.. so no guessing here on what gun it was made to fit.. This is a really nice, honest and affordable set here. Don't miss it.. $30 insured shipping.. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. Thank you for looking and check back often..
