Factory Engraved S&W New Model No. 3, Target Revolver, Stock
Offered here is one of the last New Model No. 3's manufactured. Serial Number # 35513. Engraved on the sides of the barrel, on the frame and on the cylinder flats. This gun is documented in the Factory Letter. The factory letter confirms serial number, caliber, barrel length, adjustable target rear sight, with the finish listed as blue and grips listed as hard rubber. It states that the revolver was shipped on January 23, 1907 and delivered to Iver Johnson Sporting Goods Co., Boston, MA, and the scrollwork is most likely factory engraving (Roy Jinks, S&W historian states, "It is my opinion based on the photographs that this revolver was engraved by the Smith & Wesson factory".) with the ivory grips being an aftermarket addition. Backstrap and butt are cut for a shoulder stock.
Excellent condition, retaining 98% plus high polished blue finish that remains in absolutely wonderful condition inside-out, restored years ago, and it appears virtually untouched since that time. One could search high and low in a lifetime of collecting and never find a better example... Mechanically excellent. The stock is excellent with 98% professionally restored blue finish remaining, and very scattered minor handling marks. Shoulder stocked S&W Model 3 revolvers are extremely scarce and desirable, especially those in blue finish as most produced were nickel plated. This example would be extremely hard to improve upon!
