HIGH CONDITION RARE MODEL 1891 .38 S&W CAL. SINGLE ACTION TARGET REVOLVER, #19XXX, WITH FACTORY LETTER. Also known as the .38 Single Action Third Model, all Model 1891s are scarce with those having target sights especially so. This blue example with 5" barrel has the typical target blade front sight with small target rear sight attached to the barrel latch. It also has black hard rubber S&W embossed extension target grips. The number on the frame, cylinder and barrel match. The barrel latch is not numbered. Exc. full blue overall with only some flaking to brown on the outside of the cylinder between the flutes, exc. screw heads, exc. markings including the "MODEL of '91" stamping on the barrel top. Good light to fading case colors on the hammer and trigger guard, exc. grips with one tiny nick at the back strap on one panel (hardly worth mentioning). Very tight action and excellent bright bore. The 1981 dated S&W historical letter simply states "...your revolver, serial number 19XXX, was shipped from our factory on March 22, 1902 to the Sportsmen Supply Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania." There is no other info on this revolver in the letter aside from the usual supplied into about the model itself. A super scarce S&W that many collectors have never encountered. This one is in superb condition.
