Scarce US Contract Smith & Wesson 1st American. Made in 1871 .44 American with an 8” barrel, Nice sharp gun with a smooth brown patina and blue in the protected areas. Action work perfect. Bore is very good with some pitting. Grips are very good and are numbered to the gun. Gun is all matching. This gun is one of the 1000-gun contract purchased by the US Army. This gun has a clear US marking on top of the barrel and all of the tiny “A” inspector’s marks on the left-hand side and the tiny “P” s on the right-hand side. This gun comes with a factory letter confirming it is a US purchase. Very fine condition that is well above the average one of these you run across.
