The company served the northern states from New England west to Colorado. Railway Freight Express Co -United States Express Company, principal office was located at 82 Broadway, branch offices, 291 and 416 Broadway. New York. This is consistent with S&W Historical Foundation research stating this revolver was probably shipped on February 13, 1873 to M.W. Robinson Co, New York, New York. (See attached S&W Historical Foundation research letter/also included) This makes sense because through my research, I've learned that Robinson Company provided railroad express companies with firearms. I've also seen other early railroad marked S&W & Colt revolvers which had been shipped to M.W. Robinson Co. Of course I believer they were also S&W largest distributor at the time. Anyhow I think the provenance is spot on with this revolver and the dots all connect. Overall a very nice original early S&W American revolver. I really believe "pictures are worth a thousand words" so please examine closely for condition. You wont be disappointed! I'm always interested in trades so remember its a "free ask."
