Look for the gold '55 Chevy road sign! ~Trades and offers are always considered~ Very Rare Factory/New York Engraved & Silver Inlaid Civil War Era Smith & Wesson No. 2 Old Model Army Revolver with Pearl Grips, .32 RF, mfg. ca. 1863/1864 with 6" barrel. This is a 100% original example of a Nimschke engraved No. 2 Army with extremely rare and unusual Silver scroll inlay. The No. 2 Army was very popular among Union officers during the American Civil War and those observed with serial numbers below 35,000 may have seen use during the conflict. This revolver, serial number 20834, was manufactured in late 1863 or early 1864. While most engraved guns were nickel or Silver plated this example was originally blued so it would contrast nicely against the Silver inlay. Overall the pistol shows an even dark gray patina with only the slightest hints of finish remaining within protected areas. The engraving is done in typical L. D. Nimschke style with the addition of Silver inlaid scrollwork incorporated into the engraving on the sides of the frame & barrel and around the cylinder. Smith & Wesson did little to no in-house engraving and those which are referred to as "factory engraved" were generally shipped to New York for embellishment there. The majority of these were accomplished at Nimschke's shop. Original pearl grips are numbered to the gun and fit perfectly. They have a vibrant color with no cracks, chips, or repairs whatsoever. Serial number "20834" marked on the butt with "L 6" stamped on the cylinder, rear face of barrel, and frame under the grips. Clear original Smith & Wesson barrel address with original hammer, spur trigger, cartridge extractor pin, blade front sight, barrel latch, and screws. The action is crisp and functions very nicely. The barrel has notable play against the frame when closed as does the cylinder. The bore shows good strong rifling front to back with moderate blackpowder frosting. Any factory engraved No. 2 Army is a rarity but the Silver inlay on this example really sets it apart from the rest. A choice investment piece for any Smith & Wesson or Civil War collection. Jeremiah Johnson Trading sells antique firearms manufactured prior to 1899 and muzzleloading blackpowder reproductions only. For the purpose of these conditions the term "antique firearm" will hence include muzzleloading blackpowder reproductions.
