Description: Here's a rather rare Smith & Wesson revolver. This is a .38 Chief's Special Airweight (Pre-Model 37) with the early and rare alloy cylinder. This gun is for the collector, not the shooter, as the alloy cylinders are known to crack and it is generally not a good idea to shoot them. Built on the small alloy J-frame with the alloy cylinder, this was a true lightweight, tipping the scales at just 10.8 ounces! In spite of the fact that this revolver is not considered a "shooter" it is nontheless rare with the alloy cylinder and worth approximately double that of a standard steel cylinder Pre-37. Overall condition is very good with about 90% of the original finish remaining. There are a few marks, scratches & edgewear on the anodizing .PLEASE VIEW ALL PICTURES AS THEY ARE PART OF THE DESCRIPTION!. All serial numbered parts are properly matching, including the original diamond checkered grips.(Tiny chip in grip.. see last picture) The mechanics are in good working order with excellent timing and lock-up. The bore is excellent. Only 900 of the 3777 alloy cylinder revolvers made had the square butt configuration. Many of these pre-37 revolvers were destroyed or converted to steel cylinders. This revolver was made in 1953 and would be a great item for the Smith & Wesson collector to add to his stable. Buyer pays $35 shipping. Your C&R License is acceptable for transfer if permitted in your area.
