Rare S&W M&P Britsh Columbia Police & RCMP Issue marking with holster
Description: SN 650109 is a M&P model 1905 4th change that was built in the mid 1930's and was one of the revolvers as sold to the BCPP (British Columbia Provincial Police. The butt is marked BCP 394. In 1950 the RCMP took over the policing in the Province of British Columbia and this piece became one of the inherited handguns in the RCMP inventory. This piece shows the MP marking on the frame. See Arms and Accoutrements of the Mounted Police by Don Klancher. P55 to 58 as with many of the inherited handguns this revolver was rebarreled to the tapered 5" as used by the force. At this period of time the RCMP was still using a mix of new service and Smith & Wesson Revolvers. In the early 1960's a member of the force purchased this revolver at the Regina Depo. The left side of the frame shows the RCMP armourer stamped serial number and fused MP marking. The butt serial number was partially oblitereated by the installation of the Lanyard swivel, see page 48 of the above. This item shows the refinished and replaced 5" barrel, as per #117 page 57. The bottom flat shows our import marking. The frame shows most of its' original finish. The revolver was probably restocked with magna grips similar to #120 at page 58. This example is a relatively scarce RCMP revolver other than the sale of the surplus new service revolvers in 1964, there were very few 28 SPL revolvers sold. In the early 1970's the federal Government stopped the sale of surplus guns including the RCMP. As a result thousands of RCMP weapons were destroyed. This piece comes with a correct holster, belt, cartridge pouch and cross strap.
