1980 Smith & Wesson Model 15-4 Combat Masterpiece .38 Special
SOLD
Description: Introduced in 1949 by Smith & Wesson as the Combat Masterpiece, and later introduced in 1957 with a model number as a Model 15 "Combat Masterpiece", this .38 Special revolver was a commercial success and was in continuous production until 1999. This K-frame double action revolver quickly earned a reputation for being tough, reliable, and accurate. The Model 15 was mainly offered in a 2" or 4" barrel, and in a blue or nickel factory finish. The Combat Masterpiece featured adjustable sights, a square butt, and a 6-shot cylinder. This example is serial number 84K2709 and is a blued, 4" inch barrel gun manufactured in 1980. It is a "dash 4" Model 15 and still has the desirable pinned barrel. It is in very good, all-original condition. The gloss blue finish rates 95% to 96% with only a few small handling marks visible under close inspection, a faint drag line around the cylinder, and some very minor high edge wear in places on the cylinder and at the muzzle. It is obvious that this Smith has been well cared for. The case colored hammer and trigger still show lots of original color. The 4" barrel has an excellent, bright bore. The rifling still looks new with sharp edges and there is no pitting, erosion, or defects of any kind visible. The cylinder bores are equally as nice and clean. The recoil shield shows some finish wear from contact with cartridges and cleaning, but it is minor and only visible when the cylinder is swung out. This Model 15 still wears original factory checkered hardwood grips and they are in good condition overall. They are free from cracks and repairs and show some minor handling and wear, with the right grip showing a little more wear than the left. Everything on this Smith & Wesson Model 15-4 works 100% like the day it left the factory. It has a nice smooth action that is perfectly "in time" and locks up tight. The trigger is quite good on this Smith, particularly in single action operation. If you have been looking for a nice Smith & Wesson Model 15 Combat Masterpiece for your collection this would be a good addition. It would also make a perfect home protection gun that is easy to handle and operate, the two most important characteristics a house gun should have. With a steel frame and intermediate size, this Smith & Wesson does a great job of mitigating felt recoil as well for those who are recoil-sensitive.
