Look for the gold '55 Chevy road sign! ~Trades and offers are always considered~ Extremely Rare & Unusual Wexell & DeGress Attributed Exhibition Grade High Relief Engraved Smith & Wesson No. 2 Old Model Army Revolver with Gold Monogrammed Mexican Eagle Carved Ivory Grips, .32 RF Long, mfg. 1861-1874 with 5" barrel. This is one of the most intriguing and profusely embellished Smith & Wessons we have ever offered. It must be seen in person to be appreciated. The level of workmanship that went into this pistol is astounding. Wexell & DeGress were prominent Smith & Wesson agents during the Wild West era with offices in New York City and their retail store located in Mexico City. Many Generals, revolutionaries, and notable public figures were known to have carried revolvers embellished by the firm. This pistol is likely a product of their work and could only have been made as an exhibition piece or presentation for a very prominent owner. The entire pistol is deep relief engraved with full coverage depicting scroll work, flowers, and grape vines. One could spend hours studying the detail with a magnifying glass. The metal has a lightly polished appearance with no finish remaining and the sides of the hammer show fine engine turning. The ivory grips feature a carved Mexican Eagle motif on the right side with a solid gold monogram overlay above. The grips fit perfectly and show a wonderfully mellowed color. There is an old chip missing from the left butt and a very minor corner chip at both rear toes. The serial number is partially obscured by the engraving and the barrel address has been removed all together. Original hammer, spur trigger, cartridge extractor, and blade front sight. The action is crisp and functions very well. The barrel locks up securely with little play and the bore shows strong rifling front to back with moderate blackpowder frosting. I wish this one could talk because I'm sure it has a very historic past. This is far beyond any typical engraved Smith & Wesson of the era and a highlight collector piece. Again pictures do not do it justice! *NOTE: Due to Ivory restrictions this revolver will not be sold or shipped to residents of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, or Washington.* Jeremiah Johnson Trading sells antique firearms manufactured prior to 1899 and muzzleloading blackpowder reproductions only.
