** SOLD ** 1983 Smith & Wesson Lew Horton Model 24-3 .44 Special Revolver w/ Box, Manuals, Etc.
** MINT & Factory Test Fired Only! **
Description: This is a very cool limited-production Smith & Wesson Model 24-3 exclusive to the Lew Horton distribution company. Made for only one year in 1983, these neat round-butt N-frame .44 Special revolvers featured a gloss blue factory finish, a 3" inch barrel, adjustable target sights with a red insert front blade and white outline rear blade, a 6-shot fluted cylinder, a case-colored hammer and trigger, and factory smooth finger-groove combat style grips made for the round butt N-frame. While Smith & Wesson also re-introduced a Model 24-3 in 1983 and 1984, their version was only offered in a 4", 5", 5.5", or 6" inch barrel with standard style grips and about 7500 were made. The Lew Horton exclusive guns like this one were much more limited in production, with most collector's in agreement that only about 2000 to 4000 of these 3" inch guns were made in 1983. The Model 24 in all it's barrel lengths and model variations proved to be a superb revolver in every way. They were very well made from the best materials, the fit and finish was excellent, the actions were always smooth and precise, and they were very reliable in addition to being accurate. The man-stopping power of the .44 Special cartridge made it an excellent self-defense gun while keeping the recoil far more manageable than a .44 magnum chambered gun. This particular example is serial number ALA2600, and in addition to being in like-new condition it comes complete with everything it shipped from the factory with. The factory gloss blue finish is beautiful and bright rating 98% plus. with the only deductions coming from the very faintest drag-line around the cylinder that is neither complete nor visible unless you hold the gun in just the right light at the right angle. The remainder of the blue finish is flawless. All of the factory markings are crisp and clear. and all of the screws in the gun appear un-turned with perfect slots. The factory case colors on the trigger and hammer are still like-new as well, with bright and well-defined colors showing on 100% coverage. The bore is mirror-bright and perfect in this Smith, as-are the six chambers of the cylinder. The rifling is still sharp and and strong and there are no visible imperfections or wear. The extremely cool factory combat-style finger groove grips on this Model 24-3 are both in excellent condition. Both grip panels are a perfect match to each other and the gun itself, and both grips are nice and tight to the grip frame with no wiggle. The action on this revolver is extremely smooth and perfectly precise. It doesn't matter how fast or slow you work the action, double-action or single-action, the gun is in "perfect time". All of the controls feel like-new and are 100% functional, including the elevation and windage adjustments on the rear sight. This Lew Horton S&W Model 24-3 should function just as well today as the day it left the factory 39 plus years ago. The original box is in good shape with solid corners and nice and bright colors. The edges of the box show a little storage wear, but the original factory serial-numbered end-label is still intact and fully legible (matching the gun). All of the original paperwork including the owner's manual, warranty statement, safety pamphlets, and the factory-supplied and bagged cleaning/tool kit is still inside the box and in excellent condition. If you have been looking for a first-class investment-grade Smith & Wesson Model 24-3 for your collection this rare Lew Horton limited-production special would be superb choice and should continue to be an excellent long-term investment. This is as good as they get and could not be upgraded in ANY respect!
