Smith & Wesson Pre 25 The 1955 .45 Target Model (Heavy Barrel) W-Spring S&W

Description:
Sold Pending Funds - This five-screw revolver features a unique "W" shaped combination main and rebound spring. The metal surfaces retain about 99% factory blue with a faint turn ring on the cylinder and few light scratches. The .500" target hammer and trigger retains beautiful case-hardened colors. The revolver is equipped with diamond checkered walnut "coke bottle" factory grips with silver S&W medallions that rate near excellent. The revolver features a Patridge front sight, black blade micro adjustable rear sight and all appropriate parts are correctly numbered to the gun. Research has not provided much insight on this unique mainspring but The Standard Catalogue of Smith & Wesson, 3rd edition by Supica and Nahas mentions on page 166 under "Variations" that these guns are "Sometimes found with a "W" or "U" shaped mainspring" but does not elaborate further. This mainspring is a two legged "W" shaped flat spring that attaches to the hammer stirrup as the original spring did and the second leg is used to power the rebound slide. This item qualifies as a C&R. Please view the photos here for purpose of evaluating the condition.
