1979 Smith & Wesson Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman .357 Magnum - New York State Police Marked! SOLD
Description:
This 1979 vintage S&W Model 28-2 is a former New York State Police revolver and is in great shape overall. It has some interesting features that were likely added by the NY State Police Armorer before being issued, and is in perfect working order with the original factory blue finish still intact and attractive. The front sight has been cut for a "hi-viz" red insert which was not a factory option for the Highway Patrolman from S&W and the rear sight blade was replaced with a factory white outline model. The trigger has also been replaced and upgraded with a S&W factory wide smooth combat trigger in place of the standard serrated narrow factory original. Both of these changes would make this 28-2 easier to shoot faster and more accurately, two very important features for a law enforcement officer's weapon. This S&W 28-2 was then stamped with the NY State Police property marking on the left side of the frame below the cylinder "NYSP". As you can see in the pictures the original factory finish still looks great and shows only some minor finish wear from being holster carried and used, and still rates 95%. The factory original grips are in excellent condition as well, but are not numbered to this revolver. The bore in this Highway Patrolman is excellent. There is no pitting or erosion present and the rifling still looks crisp and clean. The mechanics are perfect in this Smith, the action is perfectly in-time and it locks up tight with zero wiggle or play at full lock. The action is smooth and precise in double or single action modes of operation. This Model 28-2 would be a great addition to any Smith and Wesson collection and has some added appeal as a former NY State Police pistol.
