1960 Vintage Custom Engraved Smith & Wesson 6.5" Model 29 .44 Magnum Revolver w/ Wooden Presentation Case
** Beautiful S&W ** SOLD
Description:
We just got this beautiful custom-engraved Smith & Wesson Model 29 in from the original owner's family. It was bought new, sent to an engraver, and given as a Christmas gift to Mr. Howard Batts in 1960. The gun was carried on several Western hunting trips in the 1960's and 1970's and then put into storage until now. This Smith & Wesson Model 29 retains it's original gloss-blue factory finish, a 6.5" inch barrel, and factory "diamond Coke-bottle" Goncalo Alves target grips. This Model 29 was engraved with a very nice floral scroll pattern along with some checkerboard and sunburst panels. The frame and cylinder in particular have a lot of coverage and a very attractive border that runs the length of the barrel and ejector rod housing. The bottom of the triggerguard has a "B" worked into it, and the grips have a beautiful decorative sterling silver plate fit to the butt which has the "Batts" name engraved on it. All of the engraving on the revolver was left "in the white" for contrast with the dark gloss-blue factory finish. The original factory finish is in great shape overall, showing only some very minor spots of wear and handling marks. The target-style factory hammer and trigger still have the original case colors on them which still show a lot of bright color. The bore in this Smith is in excellent condition, mirror-bright with sharp rifling and no visible imperfections. The six chambers in the cylinder are equally as clean with no imperfections. The grips on this S&W are beautiful and in excellent condition. Both sides are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs, and they are both perfectly fit and tight to the gun. The checkered panels are still crisp and clean, and both S&W medallions are intact and in excellent condition. This Model 29 is in perfect working order with a slick and smooth action that is perfectly "in time". At full-lock the cylinder locks up tight, and the trigger on this Smith breaks with a light pull without any grit or excessive travel. These vintage Smith & Wessons from the early 1960's really have actions that have to be felt to truly be appreciated. As mentioned before, this 1960 production gun comes with a wooden presentation, the factory cleaning kit, and the factory screwdriver for the adjustable sights/sideplate. The presentation case is in very good condition except for the liner which shows some wear and deterioration of the blue flocking on the inserts. The new owner could have this fixed fairly easily or leave it as-is. The lid of the case has been fitted with a small brass plaque that is engraved with "Howard Batts from Juanita 12-25-60". If you have been looking for an interesting and attractive one-of-a-kind Smith and Wesson for your collection this vintage custom Model 29 would be a great choice.
