This is An EXTREMELY RARE VARIANT of an absolutely stunning Smith & Wesson model "29" revolver chambered for .44 magnum. The serial number is 210780 with the “S” Prefix. Research shows a manufacture date of 1962 on this 4 screw beauty. There are several features which make this particular model 29 VERY SPECIAL and most likely the only one in existence with these distinct features. First, as noted in the factory letter, it was shipped from the factory with SMOOTH Uncheckered Goncala Alves Target Stocks (Coke Bottle Profile). Secondly, the “Smith & Wesson” Barrel Roll Mark on this 8 3/8” beauty is one rarely seen, as it was only used for a few short months, Only during a brief time period in 1962-1963 and only on 8 3/8” model 29’s , making this particularly scarce variation even moreso collectable than one with the standard “Smith & Wesson” barrel roll mark from that time period. Research shows a manufacture date of 1962 on this 4 screw beauty. There are several features which make this particular model 29 VERY SPECIAL and most likely the only one in existence with these distinct features. First, as noted in the factory letter, it was shipped from the factory with SMOOTH Uncheckered Goncala Alves Target Stocks (Coke Bottle Profile). Secondly, the “Smith & Wesson” Barrel Roll Mark on this 8 3/8” beauty is one rarely seen, as it was only used for a few short months, Only during a brief time period in 1962-1963 and only on 8 3/8” model 29’s , making this particularly scarce variation even moreso collectable than one with the standard “Smith & Wesson” barrel roll mark from that time period. This S&W "N" frame is a perfectly engineered - perfectly balanced – perfectly stunning, perfectly fascinating to look at and behold. This rare and amazing example is a “no dash” model 29 in Factory Nickel Finish with the mighty 8 3/8" pinned barrel and a 6 round recessed cylinder. The factory original nickel finish is well preserved with no nicks or chips in the nickel. The original clamshell case and tools are included as well, and the case interior is in fine shape for being original. Exterior of the case is in nice condition with some average wear, scratches, and nicks from storage and handling.
There are certain representations of American revolvers that words just don’t do justice. Jump ahead to the photos and see this for what it is. Truly something to behold, a legendary American wheelgun, that has a highly valued place in the evolution of American firearms. The overall condition of this revolver rates at about 97%, and the recoil shield and forcing cone reveal very low round count for this “No Dash” first run 29. The three TTT's adorn this masterful S&W revolver and she is pinned and recessed as well. Stocks are the classic “Coke Bottle” Goncalo Alves with smooth finish (uncheckered as noted in Roy Jinks Historical Letter of Authenticity). The artistry and masterful craftsmanship from the greatest era. All mechanical actions are in top condition and you will see, this gun has been very well cared for through the 6 plus decades. Bore is mint and the cylinders bores are minty smooth as well. The timing is exact and the action is extremely tight with as little end play or cylinder slack as I have ever felt on an N Frame Smith. The included Roy G. Jinks letter clarifies and confirms that this first run, Long Tube, Nickel Plated Model 29 shipped to Mississippi Valley Shooters Supply Co., Starkville, MS. This S&W Pre 29 with 8 3/8” barrel, nickel finish, Coke Bottle Smooth Target Grips, and a very rare font used on the Barrel Roll Mark, make it a highly distinguished and highly collectible as well as highly sought after variation. It is likely you will never see another one with all these features.
