Synopsis:

Large, impressive and scarce Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 Target revolver, chambered in .44 Russian, with British proofing.

Description:

Standard configuration S&W New Model 3 ‘Target’ Revolver (cal: .44 Russian) with a 7 ½” barrel with patridge moon blade front sight and ‘V’ notch drift adjustable rear sight. Top of rib with a single line address referencing manufacturer and location Springfield, Mass.. S&W logo on right side of frame and full SN on butt. After shipment to England, the revolver was marked with multiple British proofs along the left side of the barrel as well as two proofs on each cylinder and "NOT ENGLISH MAKE" on right side of frame. Full matching serial numbers on the back of the cylinder and the dismounting latch. Color case hardened hammer and trigger guard. Correct wood grips, elaborately checkered, with prominent diamonds around retaining screws.

Condition:

Approximately 97-98% bright original blue with haloing around all the British markings. Comparable condition case hardening on the hammer and trigger guard, although the left side of the hammer has some spotting as carefully photographed. Mirror bore. Perfect manual mechanics. A beautiful, high condition, New Model 3 Target in the scarce .44 Russian caliber!
