Many modern conceal carry revolvers have some relation to or take inspiration from this firearm. The Chief’s Special introduced the S&W J-frame onto the market as well the .38 Special chambered in revolvers small enough to be carried concealed. Previously, the only revolver small enough to chamber the .38 Special were the larger S&W K-frame models and Colt’s Official Police. Their size made concealment somewhat difficult.
