Consecutive pair of prototype Smith & Wesson Model 460 VXR .460 Magnum revolvers, one a Shooting Times cover gun. Serials CHU8241 and CHU8242 have 7.5-inch barrels (approximately 8.6 inches inclusive of brakes, integral ramps, fiber optic or beaded blades, integral serrated ribs), angled slide release buttons and integral locks. CHU8241 has an adjustable rear sight. It comes in a factory hard case (no label) and includes two additional brakes, barrel insert cutaway, manual and keys. The bore is bright and mechanics are solid. Metal finish is at least 85 percent. CHU8242 (the March, 2005 Shooting Times cover gun per the Metcalf estate) has a Nikon Monarch UCC 2.5-8x scope in detachable mounts and an optic rail with auxiliary open sights. No case or accessories. The bore is bright and mechanics are solid. Metal finish is at least 85 percent. The optic is clear with good lens coatings. The pair will not be separated. PROVENANCE: A Certificate of Authenticity signed by George Metcalf (brother) will be included. DICK METCALF: P. Richard “Dick” Metcalf (1946-2023) spent the majority of his adult life participating in and profoundly influencing the shooting and hunting industry. For over 40 years, his features and columns were cornerstones of publications such as Guns & Ammo, Handguns, Petersen’s Hunting and of course Shooting Times. Dick also hosted several cable television shows associated with these publications.
