Outstanding Smith & Wesson Model 60-1 .38 Special. Competed in 1978 from “test group” parts made in 1972 and supported by a factory letter, serial R57161 has unique features including a 3-inch heavy barrel (pinned) and square butt frame. Only 171 pistols in this configuration were ever produced. CONDITION: The bore is strong and bright. Trigger pulls are smooth and mechanics solid. Metal finish and grips are each at least 95 percent. INCLUSIONS: The factory letter, original box, extra grips (smooth, medallions), tools (sealed), instructions, warranty card, ammo/holster/caution flyers and parts list are present. The box is in fair condition. PROVENANCE: A Certificate of Authenticity signed by George Metcalf (brother) will be included. The price is firm and layaway is available. $5,000 plus shipping. DICK METCALF: P. Richard “Dick” Metcalf (1946-2023) spent the majority of his adult life participating in and profoundly influencing the shooting and hunting industry. For over 40 years, his features and columns were cornerstones of publications such as Guns & Ammo, Handguns, Petersen’s Hunting and of course Shooting Times. Dick also hosted several cable television shows associated with these publications. Dick Metcalf influenced the shooting and hunting worlds for the better and his contributions are certain to stand the test of time.
