Chambered in 357 Mag the Smith Wesson 586 is a medium sized double-action revolver built on an L-frame. It was originally produced in 1980 and is now part of the companys Classic line. Available with a 6- or 7-round capacity and in different barrel lengths the Model 586 is similar to the Model 686 with the primary difference being that the 686 is constructed of stainless steel and the 586 is made from carbon steel with a blued or nickel finish. The Model 586 was mainly marketed as a duty weapon for law enforcement.
