Description:
EXCELLENT PRE-WAR S&W .32 REGULATION POLICE, 4 1/4" BARREL, #479XXX, MADE 1917-1942. The Regulation Police is quickly distinguishable from the other .32 Hand Ejectors by the back strap and grips. The back strap actually has an undercut where the oversize square butt grips fit and extend over the butt of the revolver. This makes for a firmer handhold than on the other models with small standard size grips that fit flush with the butt. These were only made from 1917-1942 and are fairly difficult to find, especially in this condition. The grips are excellent and sharply checkered with the correct Patented 1917 stamping on the butt. There is one "flat" wear spot on the left bottom grip panel probably from resting in a drawer that looks much worse in the photo than in person as the light reflected off the flat area.  There is fine case colors remaining on the hammer and trigger. All markings are sharp and clear including the S&W monogram on the frame, patent dates etc. on the barrel top and patent stamping on the rear of the hammer. Nearly all the bright blue remains with only the most minor of edge wear and a small spot  of blue/brown below the cylinder on the left side. that is hardly worth mentioning.  Action is tight, bore is perfect and the blue is fine on the face of the cylinder indicating that this revolver was rarely if ever shot.  Superb hand fitted and tuned pre-war S&W quality that would be impossible to provide today.
