Description: RARE 1947 S&W .38-44 Outdoorsman Postwar-Transitional LERK 6.5'' with Original matching grips. 1 of Only 2326 Made. Serial numbermatching extractor rod housing, cylinder rear face, grip frame and N-Frame Magna American Walnut grips/stocks. Smith & Wesson made postwar improvements to the Outdoorsman model, 6 ½” pinned barrel with shrouded extractor, Patridge front sight and Micrometer click fully adjustable rear sight. Manufactured in 1947 as Smith & Wesson reintroduced the .38/44 Outdoorsman Postwar-Transitional with an “S” serial number prefix beginning at approximately S62496 and manufactured this variation from 1946 to 1949. The Smith & Wesson Original bluing has very light handling/shooting marks showing little signs of use. By Smith & Wesson design the Factory blue finish has a flat appearance. The frame and barrel roll stamps are in near perfect condition, the S&W monogram on the side plate is still very strong. This Smith & Wesson has the single line “Made in U.S.A.” frame stamp. This Outdoorsman has the Early Pre-War “Large Ejector Rod Knob”: the “LERK” among collectors. The .38/44 Outdoorsman was originally built for a High-Powered .38 Special cartridge, also known as the “.38 Super Police”. Both sides of the 6 round fluted cylinder and forcing cone area are Exceptionally clean, the mechanics are Excellent and it locks up tight. The bore is bright and rifling is sharp. Please view the photos here for the purpose of evaluating the condition for yourself. This item qualifies as a C&R. Unlike all the s, at this point, I do not collect any taxes. All such bids will acknowledge to assume any additional transfer/shipping costs on my end.
