S&W Registered Magnum Revolver Shipped to Colorado 1939
Description: Serial #57297 (Reg. #4664), .357 Magnum, 6 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This handsome revolver has all matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, extractor, yoke, and barrel; with the metal retaining 92-95% of the original blue finish that exhibits some mild silvering at the muzzle, and spots of gray finish loss along the left side of the barrel. There is some further silvering and light fading along the projecting edges, and the cylinder has a moderate turn-ring at the rear. The grooved hammer and trigger have most of their bright original color case-hardening remaining with some mild fading present along the edges. The original adjustable rear sight is still present, and a period King reflector front sight is installed. The sight could be returned to the original Call front if desired. The walnut Magna grips, original and numbered to the gun on the interior, are in fine condition with some minor handling marks, mostly at the butt on the right side, and some minor flattening of the points on both panels. The action functions and times flawlessly, and the lock-up is tight. A period Heiser flap holster is included with the revolver that has scattered minor scuffs and handling marks throughout. A 2022-dated S&W Factory Letter that lists a ship date of May 10, 1939 to Whitney Sporting Goods Co. of Denver, CO, as part of a two gun shipment. The letter specifies that both revolvers originally had Call front sights, but the King replacement is a commonly found feature on Registered Magnums. Also included is a sheaf of S&W Historical Foundation documents pertaining to the revolver and shows that the original order was placed as a "RUSH" job by Whitney Sporting Goods Co. A copy of the original Whitney purchase order, dated March 25, 1939, is also included. This is a splendid Registered Magnum, in fine overall condition, and would make a great addition to any collection. FFL or C&R SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
