Description: RARE BARREL LENGTH PRE-WAR .32 S&W LONG CALIBER REGULATION POLICE REVOLVER, #353XXX. This unusual model was made with a "cut" in the back strap to fit oversized walnut grips that fully enclose the butt of the revolver. The bottom of the wood grips are stamped "PAT. JUNE 5, 1917" and because they cover the metal butt of the revolver, S&W placed the serial number on the front strap. The serial number matches on the frame, barrel and cylinder. Almost all of this model seem to be found with the shorter 3 1/4" or 4 1/4" barrel. Very few turn up with the longest barrel offered, 6". This is a superb example with excellent diamond checkered grips, good case color on the hammer and nearly all the blue intact with only a very light cylinder line and some of the most minor edge wear. Screws appear unturned, action is tight and the bore is bright and excellent. The serial numbers of this model began in 1917 at approx. 260000 and ran to approx 536000 when production ceased in 1942. I would assume this example was made in the early 1920s. One of the more interesting of the .32 Hand Ejector series of revolvers and with the larger grips, a more stable and comfortable shooting handgun.
